Bob Evans and Marvin Carbaugh founded Keystone Fruit Sales, Inc. Their goal is to provide exceptional marketing service to local apple and peach growers throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.



Kurt Schweitzer of the Pennsylvania Apple Marketing Board is employed as a salesperson for Keystone. In 1981, he purchases 1/3 interest in Keystone and becomes part owner.



Keystone expands peach program from Mid-Atlantic States into southeastern region as exclusive marketing agent for Regional Southern Peaches from Cash Farms, Inc., Cowpens, South Carolina.



Keystone diversifies product base, entering the sweet onion industry as exclusive marketing agent for Plantation Sweets Vidalia Sweet Onions in Cobbtown, Georgia.



Keystone Fruit Sales, Inc. corporate name is changed to Keystone Fruit Marketing, Inc. to represent focus on wider-service philosophy as full-service marketing agents for customers.



Keystone begins research in Central America to locate potential production areas where consistent supplies of high quality sweet onions can be produced for distribution in the U.S. during the winter months.



Keystone introduces a new winter sweet onion -- Mayan Sweets® brand imported sweet onions, grown in Panama, Costa Rica and Guatemala – to United States markets, meeting great enthusiasm by consumers and retailers.



Keystone researchers locate optimal growing conditions for Mayan Sweets® in certain coastal areas of Perú, and relocate Mayan Sweets program to Perú. First shipments of Mayan Sweets® onions from Perú arrive in U.S.



Keystone opens the Northwest Regional Office in Kennewick, Washington.



Keystone’s first grower partnerships are formed with Peruvian sweet onion growers.



Keystone and Progressive Produce Corporation of Los Angeles, California form an alliance to distribute and market sweet onions in the Los Angeles area.

Keystone enters exclusive regional peach marketing agreement with Taylor Orchards of Reynolds, Georgia.

In the Northwest Region, Keystone enters the Walla Walla Sweets sweet onion industry as marketers for Pacific Packers of Walla Walla, Washington.

Miguel Ognio Gomez is employed as General Manager of KeyPeru, headquartered in Lima, Perú.



Marvin Carbaugh, one of the founding partners, passes away.

Keystone introduces a new, exclusive house label, Walla Walla River® brand, and expands marketing of Walla Walla Sweet Onions into the national marketplace.

Keystone establishes exclusive marketing agreement with regional peach grower Jerrold A. Watson & Sons of Monetta, South Carolina.

Keystone is first importer to offer customers a guaranteed 100% certified sweet® onion program on all imported sweet onions and Walla Walla sweet onions.



Keystone’s owners form KeyPeru S.A., in Lima, Perú, to manage the affairs of their Peruvian sweet onion business operations.
